2023 meeting trends revealed in Doodle survey

In partnership with the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), scheduling giant Doodle conducted a global study to reveal how the way we meet continues to change in 2023.

Zürich, 28 November 2023 - Doodle,  the popular scheduling tool, has analyzed the results of a global survey to reveal how the way we meet continues to change in 2023. A return to the office, differences in meeting length between Europe and North America and other interesting trends are all included in Doodle’s State of Meetings Report 2023.

Doodle questioned around 2,500 entrepreneurs, leaders and executive assistants around the world to understand how they plan and schedule their day. This work was supported by the School of Applied Psychology at ZHAW.

Some notable results include:

A growing difference between North American and European meeting styles
Europeans are scheduling meetings further in advance, while North Americans are having shorter meetings.

Europeans are returning to the office faster than North Americans
While those in the US and Canada are still embracing the world of digital meetings we all discovered during COVID-19, Europeans have seen a quicker return to working at the office.

The later the invitation, the shorter the meeting
Meetings with more than a month’s notice tend to last an hour or longer. Invites sent with a week’s notice, rarely see gatherings longer than 60 minutes.

Renato Profico, Doodle CEO: "The world of meetings has changed so much in the last few years, and it’s amazing to see how we can still be surprised by the findings of reports like this. This latest Doodle report shows especially why scheduling tools are as vital as ever. They help us to stay on top of the growing complexity involved with having a meeting."

Dr. Christian Bucher, ZHAW School of Applied Psychology: "Meetings are an integral part of our everyday working lives. It is therefore fascinating to see how meeting patterns differ for example depending on the purpose of the meeting or the professional role. It is exciting to see how meetings have developed recently and what trends are emerging."
