Emily Bell joins Tamedia's Advisory Board for Digital Development

Zürich, February 28, 2014 – Emily Bell has been appointed as an additional member of the Tamedia's Advisory Board for Digital Development. Emily Bell is a professor and the director of the Tow Center for Digital Journalism at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York. She is also an internationally recognized leading media commentator. Until 2010, she was editor-in-chief across the Guardian's websites and the director of digital content for Guardian News and Media. As such she led the web team in pioneering live blogging, multimedia formats, data and social media. In 2013, she was appointed as a board member of the Scott Trust, which owns the Guardian Media Group, as non-executive director.

 

Tamedia's Advisory Board for Digital Development was established in October 2013. It's mission is to anticipate trends, reflect on digital opportunities and provide an external perspective on strategic investments or alliances. It's other members are  Markus Gross, professor for digital media technologies at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich) and director of Disney Research Zurich, Mathias Müller von Blumencron, Editor-in-Chief Digital Media of «Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung» and former Co-Editor-in-Chief of «Der Spiegel», Sverre Munck, former Executive Vice-President of Norway's Schibsted Media Group responsible for Strategy and International Editorial, and Thomas Sterchi, inter alia the founder of jobs.ch, the leading online job portal in Switzerland now belonging to Tamedia and Ringier.

 

The Advisory Board meets three times a year and works together with the Business Development Committee. It is chaired by Pietro Supino, Tamedia's publisher and Chairman of the Board of Directors.

 

Tamedia, a leading Swiss media company founded in 1893, reported growing digital revenues in the first half of 2013. The Digital business division saw its revenues increase by 81.1 per cent from CHF 61.8 million to CHF 111.9 million, accounting for 21 per cent of total revenues and roughly a quarter of the profit. The company's goal is to develop it's existing digital activities and to further invest in the digital sector.
