Tamedia is increasing its stake in Zattoo
Zurich, 22 September 2015 – The Swiss media group Tamedia is increasing its stake in Zattoo, a provider of Internet TV services, and will acquire a 31 percent interest in Zattoo International AG. Tamedia will contribute the 39.4 percent interest it currently holds in Zattoo Schweiz AG to the new investment. Tamedia will support the expansion of international operations and have a representative on the Board of Directors. According to the agreement, Tamedia has an option to acquire Zattoo International step by step by 2021.
Both Zattoo and Tamedia believe that the Internet TV market offers enormous potential. Zattoo is the clear market leader in Switzerland and has been collaborating with Tamedia, for example, by integration into the mobile site of 20 Minuten. Zattoo is also the number one in the fast growing German web TV market.
In addition to services to individual users, Zattoo has successfully established itself in recent years as a technical service provider to companies offering cable TV and IPTV services. A number of network operators in five European countries are using Zattoo's technology and service to run their TV operations.
Christoph Brand, member of the Tamedia Management Board and responsible for the Digital Division: «Zattoo is a perfect example of how to expand out of Switzerland with an innovative product and at the same time enhance the portfolio of Tamedia.»
Bea Knecht, Founder and Chairwoman of the Board of Zattoo: «Tamedia was a good partner for us in Switzerland and we look forward to continuing our relationship also at an international level.»
Nick Brambring, CEO Zattoo: «We have a world-class team for Internet TV and continue to focus on growth with Tamedia.»
