Tamedia brings Mobile Flea Market Tradono to Switzerland
Zurich, 18 January 2016 – Tamedia has acquired a 25 percent minority interest in the mobile flea market Tradono of Denmark and its investment supports the continued development of the young company. The largest Swiss media group and the start-up from Copenhagen are also launching a joint venture of the mobile marketplace in Switzerland.
Tradono was founded in Denmark in 2014 and has been growing rapidly since then. The marketplace pursues a consistent mobile first strategy and is closely tied to social media which increases the range of their ads. The users log on via their Facebook account and are able to easily and efficiently sell items they no longer need, such as clothes, shoes, toys, sofas and much more via the mobile phone. Interested buyers can browse for bargains in their local neighbourhood and filter in various categories. All users need to have a profile picture, which strengthens confidence for both buyers and sellers. The apps for iPhone and Android are already available in German and French in the respective App Stores.
Christoph Brand, Head of the Digital Division of Tamedia, about the investment at Tradono: «We are pleased that we are able to bring Tradono to Switzerland, a mobile flea market that addresses a very young and urban target group. This is an ideal complement for our classifieds portal tutti.ch, which is leading the market in German-speaking Switzerland and in the Ticino.»
The Managing Director of the new joint venture of Tradono in Switzerland will be Patrick Biehle. The 34-year old Biehle was previously Deputy Head Sales at Saxo Bank since 2011 and is joining the start-up now. In 2008 the economist and environmental scientist founded an online portal for wine trading (Winexpress.ch), which he sold to Weinkellereien Aarau in 2011. Patrick Biehle will be responsible for the development of a team, adaptation of the apps and the portal to Switzerland as well as other marketing activities.
