Tamedia acquires an interest in ticket marketer Starticket
Zurich, 1 July 2013 – As of 1 July, the Tamedia Media Group is to acquire a 75% interest in Starticket, a Swiss ticket marketer. Starticket is set to continue developing on a joint basis with the present management, and cooperation with individual media in the Tamedia group will be stepped up. «20 Minuten» has already been offering its readers concert and festival tickets in cooperation with Starticket since 2010.
Tamedia, the new principal shareholder, is acquiring shares in Starticket AG from Peter Hürlimann, its founder, and from the current co-owners, Urs Brunner, Hans Syz and Brino Holding AG, owned by Bruno Widmer. Peter Hürlimann will remain in place as CEO and will hold – together with the management – 25% of the shares. There is an option for Tamedia to acquire further shares from Peter Hürlimann and the management team until 2018.
Starticket was founded in 2003 by Peter Hürlimann. The ticket marketer offers tickets for concerts, festivals, parties, stage shows, sports fixtures and specials via an online portal and a mobile application, through box office sales, advance booking points and a call center. Thanks to its innovative print at home solution and its consistent focus on internet technology, Starticket has continued to expand its position ever since it was founded, and is now the second largest ticket marketer in Switzerland.
These transactions are subject to approval by the Swiss Federal Competition Commission.
