Bernhard Brechbühl to become Managing Director of 20 Minuten - Emmanuel Fleig remains Managing Director of L'essentiel in Luxembourg

Bernhard Brechbühl will take over the management of the 20 Minuten Group. He has a proven track record in media and is an expert in new, digital business models. Currently, he is Chief Digital Officer of the Energy Group Switzerland. Marcel Kohler will remain Managing Director of the 20 Minuten Group until Bernhard Brechbühl’s start at the beginning of August.

Zurich, 17 January 2022 – Bernhard Brechbühl, currently Chief Digital Officer of the Energy Group, will take over the management of the 20 Minuten Group comprising 20 Minuten, 20 minutes, lematin.ch and Encore as well as the holdings in 20 minuti/tio.ch, Heute/heute.at in Austria and Edita/L'essentiel in Luxembourg at the beginning of August 2022. He succeeds Marcel Kohler, who will step down from the operational business on this date.

The new appointment comes as Emmanuel Fleig, due to family reasons, will not move to Switzerland to succeed Marcel Kohler as Managing Director of the 20 Minuten Group, as planned and announced. He will instead continue his very successful work as Managing Director of Edita/L'essentiel in Luxembourg.

After ten years, Bernhard Brechbühl is returning to the company where he began his career as a reporter and which he helped shape for  around 12 years. From 2005 to 2012, he was a member of the editorial board and managing editor, from 2008 he was also Head of Entertainment.

Later, Bernhard Brechbühl founded Storyfilter, a publishing and consulting company specialising in social media.

In October 2016, he became a member of the Executive Board of Energy Switzerland. He built up the digital content business for the radio and entertainment group; simultaneously launched the young media brand Izzy for Ringier and managed it for three years. As Chief Digital Officer at Energy, Bernhard Brechbühl is currently in charge of the divisions Content, Digital Marketing and Technology. He is also Head Content & Publishing Innovation of Ringier's Global Media Unit, the strategy and management committee for media activities in 12 countries. Bernhard Brechbühl holds a degree in economics from the University of Zurich, graduating in 2003, and an MBA in media management from the Steinbeis School of Management and Innovation in Berlin in 2011.

Pietro Supino, publisher of 20 Minuten: "With Bernhard Brechbühl, we were able to appoint a proven expert in the media industry with entrepreneurial spirit and great experience in digital business models. He brings with him the best prerequisites to continue the success story of 20 Minuten together with the management and the employees."

The Board of Directors and the Group Executive Board of the TX Group wish Bernhard Brechbühl much success in his new position.
